Question for AR Guys....

im doing my first build and was rallying up some pieces and was wondering if there is any must have accessories?? anything that you wished you had from the start? i dont plan on doing anything competitive or hunting....a just in case self defense weapon with some target shooting only.

An EoTech sight. I'm still saving up for mine... But I believe it's a "must" for the AR. :)

A quality 3 point sling. So you can transition from rifle to pistol and back to rifle.

Re: Question for AR Guys....

Right now I have some basic ARs that i am still adding accessories to. I think an aimpoint might be better than an eotech, although lots of people like the eotechs as well. Its probably a ford vs chevy type discussion.

If you are going to use it for home defense, get a light for it. I plan on getting one. Also if you want to add stuff to it, you are going to need a rail, if you dont have one already. I have a Daniel Defense rail and I like it a lot.

One other thing that would be handy is a .22lr conversion kit. Costs about $200 for the kit with one mag. It can easily pay for itself in one range session.

You might want to get a sling for it. I have a cheap nylon sling but am probably going to get a single point sling.

Another interesting addon is the "grippod", which is basically a vertical forward grip that also turns into a bipod. I think its pretty cool if you have an M4 style gun, which is what I have. I am going to get one of those whenever I remember to order it.

I am probably in the same position as you. I am most likely not going to be doing competition or hunting, just shooting and messing around. Off the top of my head I cant think of anything else handy to get. Maybe a bore snake if you dont have one in that caliber already.

collapsable stock. you never know what type of situation you might be in. full length, fixed stock is not good.

i also vote for the eotech. love mine.

If you have a quad rail, tango down vertical grip, light mount and light, Aimpoint (because of amazing battery life vs the eotech). I have a 2 point sling that works great for hands free work (Larue tactical padded: http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetac...tail.bok?no=86)

You need everything you see here.

If you have a rig like this, you won't even have to fire a shot. You enemy will simply die of laughter.

I'm not sure, but I think the next model up has an auto pilot feature.

Enidine hydraulic buffer -- rate reducer

If you have it scoped. You'll be able to pick-up your sight picture quicker after each shot.

Some would say a drop-in two stage trigger. I haven't got there yet, so I can't say one way or the other.

I've heard of people keeping their red dot and irons on a 45 degree cant off to the side with a trijicon on top. Tilt your rifle a little bit for up close work, and bring it vertical for long distance shots.

Jard Inc. set trigger assembly, accu wedge and an Otis cleaning system. Those are the ones I wish I had from day one.

If you are looking at upgrading parts, I would say add a Geissele trigger.

Thats a new one to me, but there are many good ones out there.I put Jardinc triggers on my custom mauser and Colt AR and I can vouch for them, very well built and reliable.

Geissele triggers have only been around for a few years, but they are top of the line. They make a few different versions. The SSA/SSF is non adjustable, and the Hi-Speed is an adjustable with multiple springs that you can change out for different pull weights.

The SSA trigger is the best AR15 trigger out there right now in my opinion. They are just about impossible to find, though. They are all handmade by one guy in Jersey.

Only things you need right now are extra mags, practice ammo, and a GOOD SLING. Then take a training class. All the other stuff you dont need till later/or never...
